This guide covers what's needed to register a toll free number with TapMango and what to expect during the approval process.
⚠️ Before You Begin
Important: Toll free number registration is only available for businesses based in the United States or Canada. If your business is located outside of these regions, toll free number registration is not supported.
Note: Before your toll free number is active, we recommend reviewing our Understanding Text Message Content with TapMango guide. Failing to follow content rules after your number is registered can result in the removal of your toll free number.
Toll Free Number Registration
Toll free numbers must go through a carrier-level verification process before they can be used to send SMS messages through TapMango. This is an industry-wide requirement designed to reduce spam and protect your customers.
TapMango handles the registration process on your behalf - all you need to do is provide the required business information when prompted during account setup or when our team reaches out.
What You'll Need to ProvideTo complete registration, our team will need the following information from you: ① Your government-issued business tax identification number.
② Your Legal Entity Name or DBA (Doing Business As) name, as registered with your government.

Selling Alcohol?
Important: If your business sells alcohol, there are additional requirements that must be met for toll free number registration. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in your registration being rejected or your toll free number being revoked.
Additional Requirements for Alcohol-Related Businesses① Your personal website will need to capture the customer's birth year during sign-up or account creation.
② You will also need to capture the customer's birth year when they register through TapMango. ③ Message content will still be subject to our content filtering system. We recommend reviewing our Understanding Text Message Content with TapMango guide for details on what is and isn't permitted. ④ If your business is based in Canada, customers must be 21 years of age or older to receive marketing SMS messages. You are responsible for ensuring your age verification process confirms this before opt-in.

Restricted Content Categories (SHAFT)
Carrier networks enforce strict rules around certain content categories in SMS messaging. These are commonly referred to as SHAFT categories. Businesses that fall into these categories may face restrictions on what they can include in their text messages — or may not be eligible for toll free number registration at all.
-
S — Sex / Sexual Content
This includes adult entertainment businesses, adult retail stores, dating services that promote sexual content, and any business whose products or services are sexual in nature. - H — Hate Speech
-
A — Alcohol
This includes bars, breweries, wineries, liquor stores, restaurants with a primary focus on alcohol sales, and any business that promotes or sells alcoholic beverages. See the Selling Alcohol? section above for the exception process. -
F — Firearms
This includes gun shops, firearms dealers, shooting ranges that sell firearms or ammunition, hunting supply stores, and any business that sells or promotes weapons or weapon accessories. -
T — Tobacco / Drugs
This includes vape shops, smoke shops, CBD retailers, cannabis dispensaries, tobacco stores, hookah lounges, and any business that sells or promotes tobacco products, vaping products, cannabis, or related paraphernalia.
In addition to SHAFT, Gambling is also a restricted category. This includes casinos, poker rooms, sports betting operators, lottery retailers, and any business that facilitates or promotes wagering or games of chance.
Messaging that promotes or references any of the above categories is generally not permitted and will result in message filtering, delivery failures, or removal of your toll free number.
What Happens Next?
Once our team has your information, we'll submit the registration on your behalf. Verification is handled by the carrier networks, and approval typically takes 2–5 business days.
You will be notified once your toll free number is approved and ready to use.
