What Does "Sunsetting" Your Membership Mean?
When you are phasing out a membership, but can't yet delete it because there are subscribed customers who are in the middle of their billing cycle, you have the option to "Sunset" it.
This will remove the membership for purchase on your app/membership page so new customers cannot signup. However, existing customer will be allowed to finish out the rest of the membership.
Once a customer reaches the end of their membership, their auto-renewal will fail.
Sunsetting a membership is NOT reversible. Once sunsetted, it is cancelled and a new membership will need to be made.
Notifying Your Customers
Customers are notified via email when a membership they are registered to is Sunsetted (as well as when they purchase it, cancel it, or if a payment fails).
It would be a good idea to send out a campaign to customers explaining why the membership plan has been retired and that they will still have access to the full benefits of that membership until their billing cycle ends. You can also include information for any new memberships that may have replaced it.
