What is an SMS Keyword?
An SMS Keyword is a specific word TapMango can assign to your account. This can be provided to your customers to allow them to sign up via texting, as alternatives to the TapMango Portal, Store Tablet or Online Sign Up Page.
How Do I Get an SMS Keyword?
To add an SMS Keyword added to your account just contact TapMango support and request one.
Can I have Any Word?
You're free to choose any word you want, though we have a few suggestions,
Be Specific
We recommend against using a generic word representing your business. Ex: COFFEE would be a poor choice if you're a cafe. It could confuse customers.
Keep it Short
We recommend keeping the word as short as well. The easier it is to type, the more likely customers will do it without thinking. Ex: If your business name is Cafe Arizona instead of CAFEARIZONA we'd suggest CAFEAZ
No Duplicates
As long as the keyword is not taken by another TapMango merchant it can be used.
Don't Be Offensive
TapMango will not provide a merchant with a keyword that could be considered offensive, or discriminatory, based on TapMango's discretion.
Am I limited to a Single Word?
Not at all, you can request multiple words if you'd like. Generally, we'll only recommend this if there's a purpose such as different locations, or groups.
How Does It Work?
Once you have your keyword it's as simple as texting that word to the 10-digit toll-free number assigned to your account. You can find this in the blue banner when creating a new Quick Campaign, or contact Support.
Reply YES
After a customer texts the keyword to the shortcode there will be a response asking the customer to confirm to receive messages from your business. Once YES is texted back, the customer is part of your program and able to collect rewards and receive messages.
Profile Complete
After confirming YES there is a follow-up question asking customers to complete their profile online. This allows the customer to provide their full information and create a password to sign in through http://customer.tapmango.com to view their points and rewards at your store.
Can I Use Keywords For Existing Customers?
Yes! Keywords aren't restricted to just enrolling new users in the rewards system. They can also be used to send out a "Merchant Response". But existing customers can still text enroll keywords to receive discounts.
A "Merchant Response" can include information for a particular deal, links to download apps, instructions to follow you on social media, etc.
For example: if you want customers to get links to your TapMango app, they can text a keyword that will send them the App store links in response.
What If Customers Who Aren't in the Rewards System Text The Keyword
If an unregistered customer texts a keyword that was set up to send out a Merchant Response to existing users (for example, App links), they will be asked to Register.
Once they register, they will have to text the Keyword again to get the message.
