How to Fix: Modifier Mismatch Error on Your Online Menu
If your TapMango online ordering menu displays the error message “Modifier groups mismatch across categories. Fix in POS”, it usually means an item was copied or duplicated inside Toast instead of being built from scratch.
Important: TapMango requires each menu item to be completely unique in order to sync properly.
To fix the issue, adjust the item directly in your Toast account using one of the options below.
Option 1: Rebuild the Item (Recommended)
This is the cleanest way to fix individual items causing the error.
- Log into your Toast Tab dashboard.
- Navigate to your Menus section and locate the item displaying the error.
- Delete the copied item entirely.
- Rebuild the item from scratch as a brand-new, original item.
- Re-attach your desired modifier groups directly to the newly created item.
Option 2: Use "Deep Copy" (Best for Larger Menus)
If a large number of menu items are showing this mismatch error, rebuilding everything may take too much time.
- Open your Toast Tab dashboard.
- Use Toast's "deep copy" feature on the affected modifier groups.
- This structurally duplicates the groups properly so that TapMango can read them cleanly.
Final Step: Sync and Publish Your Changes
After fixing the item structure in Toast, you must bring those updates into TapMango so your online store refreshes.
- Log into your TapMango Portal.
- Navigate to Orders > Catalog Sync on the left-hand menu.
- Click New Sync.
- Set your Target Catalog as your Main Menu.
- Do not create a brand-new catalog, or you will need to re-do your store hours.
- Click the green Re-Import Data from POS button to pull your fresh Toast data into TapMango.
- Check off the corrected items and modifiers, then click Update Catalog at the bottom.
- Return to your main Catalog page, click the orange Unpublished Changes triangle, and hit Publish twice to make the fixed menu live.
